Back in 2016, we helped grit blasting and specialist coating company Southern Coating Contractors to implement a quality management system that met both ISO 9001 and National Highways Sector Scheme 19A requirements.
Since then, we have been assisting SCC with annual surveillance audits, and we are pleased to report that - after a site visit in Hatfield - the latest audit was completed without any non-conformances being raised.

What is NHSS19A?
NHSS stands for National Highways Sector Schemes, a type of management system that's specifically geared towards organisations who work on the British road network.
NHSS19A is a specific certification that covers the use of corrosion-resistant industrial coatings for ferrous metals. As mentioned above, NPT Management Systems previously helped Southern Coating Contractors to plan and implement a bespoke management system that complied with NHSS19A standards as well as meeting the requirements for ISO 9001.

Last year, we helped Southern Coating Contractors Ltd to achieve two separate certifications: ISO 9001 and NHSS19A (National Highways Sector Scheme 19A). SCC wanted an ISO 9001-compliant management system that would help them to grow the business, but they also required the HSS19A accreditation in order to carry out work on the UK's road network. As we reported last June, SCC were recommended for both accreditations after a gruelling four-day certification body audit found zero non-conformances.
Of course, the hard work doesn't end with getting certified! Last month, SCC had their first surveillance audit since achieving ISO 9001 / NHSS19A status, and once again, the NPT team were called in to assist the organisation during this process. We're pleased to reveal that the audit went very well, with no non-conformances raised once again.
We would like to offer our congratulations to SCC for this great result and we wish them the best for all future surveillance audits.

Over the last 3 months, we at NPT Management Systems have been helping Southern Coating Contractors to implement a tailor-made quality management system that meets the stringent requirements of both ISO 9001 and the National Highways Sector Scheme 19A.
This week, we are pleased to announce that SCC have been recommended for ISO 9001 and National Highways Sector Scheme 19A Certification by a UKAS-accredited certification body, with zero non-conformances. This superb outcome is the result of an extremely tough multi-site audit: 4 days of certification body auditing with 3 different skilled auditors involved.
Here's what Tony Frost, Managing Director of Southern Coating Contractors, had to say after receiving the good news:
"We were recommended to contact Neil Peattie from NPT Management Systems to help with our needs for ISO 9001 and HSS19A Certification. Neil's ability to work with the team and to implement a system that we can all use is first-class. We now have a great system that will help to grow the business. I would recommend Neil Peattie as an ISO 9001 consultant."
What are National Highways Sector Schemes?
National Highways Sector Schemes (NHSS) are bespoke quality management systems for organisations that work on the UK road network. NHSS19A focuses on the use of industrial coatings to protect ferrous metals from corrosion. The standard was developed in conjunction with all parts of the highways industry and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.
When a business achieves NHSS 19A certification, it assures clients that standards are being consistently applied. If you would like to learn more about the National Highways Sector Schemes or ISO 9001 certification, please contact NPT Management Systems today - we can help you to meet these standards and get certified first time.
