ISO 14001:2015
A new ISO 14001 revision will be coming into effect before the end of 2015. Is your business prepared?
The ISO 14001:2015 update is expected to be published in September 2015. After this, companies certified to the previous standard (ISO 14001:2004) will be given a three-year ‘transition period’, during which time you will need to migrate your environmental management system to the new ISO 14001 revision.
Once this three-year period has passed, all companies seeking ISO 14001 certification will be required to meet ISO 14001:2015 standards.
What’s changing?
The main aim of the latest ISO 14001 revision is to adapt the standard to recent marketplace changes and ensure its compatibility with other management systems such as ISO 9001 (which is also being revised in 2015).More specifically, the ISO 14001:2015 update will target the following areas:
- Environmental management within the strategic planning process
- Initiatives to protect the environment
- Business leadership
- Communications strategy
- A ‘lifecycle’ approach to environmental management
